Building safety and community for all women and girls

Project Overview

Malikah is a grassroots anti violence and wellness non profit organizing to build safety for those in their community. The organization’s primary focus is self defense trainings, however they also provide many other services such as healing justice, financial literacy classes and operate a mutual aid hub. As Malikah is transforming their community in many ways, they want to highlight themselves first as a leader in self defense to gain partnerships and expand their self defense impact.

Role

User Research, Information Architecture, Visual design, UI design

The problem

Malikah is a grassroots organization whose primary focus is self defense, however they expanded their services to meet the needs of their community. As they provide economic justice trainings, healing justice trainings, operate a mutual aid hub amongst many other things, their primary focus as a self defense organization becomes another offering, rather than presenting as their leading service. The website’s lack of emphasis on self defense training can hinder partnerships in the future as Malikah seeks to expand their self defense trainings nationally.

The goal

Malikah would like to increase their partnerships and self defense bookings. They seek to provide women and girls with the knowledge they need to protect themselves and wish to impact as many people as they can.

The solution

The website refresh includes call to actions that emphasize Malikah’s role as a self defense organization and provides call to actions that lead to partnership information. The website also went through a brand and UX refresh to consolidate the header navigation which highlights Malikah’s mission, impact and makes it easier to partner with the organization. I made adjustments to their site’s SEO to help aid in the website’s traffic and to reach clients who would most benefit from Malikah’s services.

The Malikah website is launching soon!
